Welcome, dear guests, to the wake of Derrick Von Spindletop. Our town’s tolerable business investor and oil tycoon was found dead in his study two days ago.
As we gather here today, perhaps there may be more to Spindletop’s “natural” death than meets the eye.
Could his wife, Francine, have cashed in early on his life insurance? Or it may have been Seth Poole, who has plodded here all the way from the piney woods of East Texas. Perhaps Seth’s pursuit of a partnership proved deadly? And then there’s the two new Wildcatters in town. Did Wally sink Spindletop’s ship into the depths of Davy Jones’ locker? Or did one of Helga’s manic mechanisms bring Derrick to his demise?
Send an urgent telegram to the Marshal, County Sheriff, and Texas Ranger! The wealthiest man in town has been struck down in this hunt for black gold, and we’re going to need all the help we can get!

Marshal Jim Courtright
Marshal Jim is an all around helpful kind of guy. Keeping law and order in this wacky town may be like putting socks on a rooster, but he’s so good he could find a whisper in a whirlwind. If you need a hand, Jim’s your man.
Wally
A self-proclaimed land pirate, Wally doesn’t need anything but his natural savvy and a bottle of rum as he steers his way far and wide searching for precious black gold. Will he get his land legs in time to outrun the competition and find the oil first?
Helga
A very German scientist, Helga knows all of the intricacies of oil production mechanisms…or so she claims. Watch your step; because this Fraulein has got so many contraptions all over the county, it’s like playing hopscotch in a field full of cow patties.
Seth Poole
A bona fide possum rancher, Seth doesn’t need crude oil. He’s discovered an organic, all natural, totally sustainable and renewable energy source, and has set out with his prized possum, Peaty, to sell Mr. Spindletop on his newest oil venture.
Francine Von Spindletop
The poor wealthy widower of the now late Derrick Von Spindletop, Francine is impatient to mourn the loss of her husband in peace. There may be no limit to her desperation to bury her past as quickly as her dear, beloved husband.
